Kira Alexis Tucker is the author of the National Poetry Series-winning collection Wildest, forthcoming from Akashic Books on December 1, 2026. 

Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Kira now finds home in Chicago. A lifelong love of literature and language fuels Kira's work as a Grants Administrator at the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund and Head of Development at Never Whisper Justice. 

A 2026-2027 Artist in Residence, Kira currently teaches in the Northwestern University Department of English, where she also earned an MFA in Creative Writing and an MA in English with a focus on environmental literature.

Kira previously taught in the English department at Beacon Academy. She was also a recent finalist for a Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellowship.

Her latest work is all about dreaming—a poetic investigation spanning the mythos of the American Dream and the landscapes of our collective unconscious.
